Get better digestion the easy way.

Here are some simple tricks that will help you get more 
benefit from your food and cut down on GI distress. 
 
Relax before and while you're eating. When you stress, you 
divert blood flow from your digestive system and to your 
head, arms and legs to take action to fix the dangerous 
situation causing the stress. No dangerous situation?  
Focus on the present moment and ENJOY your food. What a 
concept. 
 
Get acid reflux? Try chewing gum after meals. The gum 
stimulates saliva secretion which is an important part of 
the digestive process. And if you happen to start chewing 
it before you are stuffed, you'll give your digestive 
system the 15 or so minutes it needs to tell your head 
"I've had enough, thank you." 
 
Break up you food consumption into smaller meals. Not only 
will you keep your metabolism from going into "starvation 
mode", you'll also make digesting your food easier. This 
is especially good for older people, who produce less 
stomach acid (but more GI distress, interestingly. But 
that's a topic for another newsletter.) 
 
Eat your protein first. Protein takes more digestive 
juices, which are produced in decreasing amounts as the 
meal progresses.
